Melissa Gay

Melissa Gay is a critically acclaimed genre-spanning artist of the Imaginative Realism style. Starting her career as a scientific illustrator doing ink drawings for botany manuals and then black and white line art for large publishing houses, she transitioned into working on her first love, roleplaying games. In games, she has depicted everything from dragons and elves to criminal masterminds, comic book heroes, modern-day wizards, historical fiction, space opera, eldritch horror, child mermaids and sentient bugs, and strives to inject diversity and a touch of dreamlike wonder into all of them. Her award-winning work has also appeared on the covers and interiors of many books, magazines, academic publications, and even a tarot deck, while her original paintings are in the hands of private collectors around the world. She has worked with publishers such as Mythopoeic Press, Llewellyn Worldwide, Hay House, Apex Press, Pelgrane Press, Evil Hat, DOJ, Margaret Weis Productions, Third Eye Games, Blackwyrm Press, Accessible Games, Dead Gentlemen, Cosm Games, Legendary Games, Immersion Press, Sagaborn, and more, and her character redesigns have been featured on io9 and tor.com. Her current passions are her wildlife sketches, her sumi paintings, and her space scenes, all of which have met with international acclaim. Often she combines elements of all three.
